Who we are (data controller)

patterncrochet is a crochet pattern library that publishes step-by-step crochet tutorials.

Data controller: patterncrochet, a sole-trader publication operated by the site owner. The full legal-entity name and registered postal address are available on written request to privacy@patterncrochet.net; we respond within 30 days.

EU / UK representative: patterncrochet does not currently maintain a designated Article 27 GDPR representative. Users in the EU, UK, or Switzerland with data-protection questions may contact privacy@patterncrochet.net. If a representative is appointed in the future, this notice will be updated and the change will be reflected in the "Last updated" date.

What we collect and why

We collect only what is necessary to deliver the site and understand how it is used. The table below summarises each processing purpose, the categories of data, the legal basis (UK GDPR / EU GDPR), and the retention period.

We do not collect your name, email address, or any other directly identifying personal information unless you email us directly.

We share personal data only with the following processors, each acting on our behalf:

Advertising and personalized ads

If Google AdSense ads are enabled on patterncrochet, Google and third-party advertising vendors may place or read cookies, use web beacons, or use IP addresses to serve, measure, limit, and protect ads. Google may use advertising cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites.

You can withdraw optional cookie consent at any time through the "Manage privacy" link. You can also control personalized ads through Google Ads Settings or opt out of some third-party personalized ads through aboutads.info.

International transfers

Some processors (Cloudflare, Google) are headquartered in the United States. When personal data is transferred outside the EEA or the UK, we rely on:

  • The EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and the UK Extension) for processors that have certified;
  • Standard Contractual Clauses (2021) where the framework does not apply.

Your rights (UK / EU)

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15)
  • Rectify inaccurate data (Art. 16)
  • Request erasure (Art. 17)
  • Restrict or object to processing (Art. 18, 21)
  • Receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20)
  • Withdraw consent at any time using the "Manage privacy" link in the footer or the cookie preference button
  • Lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. UK: ICO. EU: your national DPA (full list at edpb.europa.eu).

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@patterncrochet.net. We respond within one calendar month.

We do not use solely automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

U.S. state privacy rights (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others)

If you are a resident of California (CCPA / CPRA), Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another U.S. state with comprehensive privacy laws, you have the following rights:

  • Right to know what personal information we have collected, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of recipients.
  • Right to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context profiling. We also honorGlobal Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals automatically as an opt-out.
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

Categories of personal information collected (last 12 months): identifiers (IP address, cookie identifiers), internet activity (browsing and referrer data), inferences (country-level location, device type). We have not sold personal information for monetary consideration or shared it for cross-context profiling.

To exercise a U.S. state privacy right, email privacy@patterncrochet.net with the request and the state in which you reside. We may verify your identity by matching reasonable identifying information against the data we hold.

Children's privacy

patterncrochet is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has submitted personal data to us, contact privacy@patterncrochet.net and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where the change is material to your rights, surface a notice on the cookie banner so you can review the new terms. Continued use of the site after a material change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
