What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser when you visit a website. We use browser localStorage rather than HTTP cookies for our own preference storage. If you accept optional cookies, Google services may place analytics or advertising cookies in your browser.
Cookies we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| pcr_consent | localStorage (strictly necessary) | Records your cookie consent choice (granted / denied) | 365 days; re-prompt thereafter |
| pcr_theme | localStorage (strictly necessary) | Stores your light / dark theme preference | Persistent (until cleared) |
| __cf_bm | Cookie (strictly necessary) | Cloudflare bot management; differentiates humans from automated traffic to protect the site | 30 minutes |
| _ga | Analytics (consent only) | Google Analytics 4: distinguishes users | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Analytics (consent only) | Google Analytics 4: session state | 2 years |
| Google advertising cookies | Advertising (consent only, when ads are enabled) | Google AdSense and advertising partners: ad delivery, fraud prevention, frequency capping, measurement, and personalized ads where permitted | Varies by Google service and browser |
Your choices
On your first visit you will see a consent banner. You can accept or decline optional analytics and advertising cookies at any time. To change your preference after your initial choice, use the link below or the "Manage privacy" link in the footer.
Third-party cookies
Cookies set by third parties are listed in the table above and are placed only after you accept the consent banner, except cookies that are strictly necessary for site security. The third parties involved are:
- Google for analytics and, when enabled, advertising through Google AdSense and its partners. See Google's cookies and similar technologies, how Google uses data on partner sites, and Google Ads Settings.
- Cloudflare for bot mitigation. The
__cf_bmcookie is treated as strictly necessary under PECR reg. 6(4) and is therefore set without consent. See Cloudflare's cookie policy.
If you click Save to Pinterest, Share on Facebook, or any other social-share button on a pattern page, that platform's own cookie policy applies to whatever it sets after the click.
You can also opt out of some third-party personalized advertising through aboutads.info.
